Statistically, school administrators rank high in burn-out rates. If, as the research suggests, burnout is the result of increased demands and fewer resources, the solution for prevention can be as simple as learning to rediscover joy and one’s purpose.
Thankfully, as faith-based educators, we don’t have to assume the position of school leader on our own. We belong to a faith-family – how awesome is that?!
How blessed are we, that:
– Our Lord and His Blessed Mother are ever present on our journeys.
– We are united in prayer, together, with a global community of believers.
– The sacraments exist and are readily accessible.
– There is a 2000 year history of others who “walked the same walk”, including thousands upon thousands of successful Catholic elementary school Principals.
Msgr. Dubois shared how he once attended a presentation by Archbishop Fulton Sheen, at which he stressed the importance of spending time in Eucharistic Adoration. As Archbishop Sheen encouraged priests, I encourage every school Principal to spend time in prayer before the Holy Eucharist daily, perhaps by attending Mass or visiting a chapel where the Eucharist is present.
I believe that the successful Principals conscientiously draw their energy from the Eucharist, an everlasting source of guidance, consolation and encouragement. The Eucharist is the “source and summit” of our faith – it is only logical to come and draw from it.
Today’s Goal: Thank God for the gift of our faith and for all those who are, have or will journey with us.
